I didn't know anything about whisky except it could be ordered in a bar. By reading this Raymond Armstrong novel, Whisky Affair, I feel I've not only been taken through an enjoyable mystery but learned a lot about whisky and its production along the way. In the novel I was given an insider's view not only to the process of production but also into the passion felt by those who favour this drink and the different 'affairs' set up to honour the whisky and the regions that produce whisky around the world. Well done.
If you like Scotland, Scotch whisky, intrigue, a love story and a murder mystery, you'll love this book. It was a page turner, I honestly could not put it down. Highly recommended reading for the Scotch enthusiast - there's lots of facts on whisky and whisky production.
Whisky Affair brougt back a lot of memories of our time exploring Scotland and her Scotch. The story is engaging and delightlfuly descriptive providing hours of entertainment.
Mike Gill has woven a together an engaging mystery that centers on the international trade that is the whisky industry.

The story is international in scope spanning two continents and large cities such as Toronto and Las Vegas while at the same time very local, focusing on smaller towns and villages including life centered around a small distillery on the Isle of Bute in Scotland.

Throughout the book the story there are frequent references to places, restaurants and hotels with intriguing details that make one want to visit them and mentions of drinks and foods that make you want to hop a plane and experience them first hand.

I really enjoyed the numerous details of places and foods all tied together with interesting characters and a flowing narrative.

As I read the book I was reminded of another author’s whose art of storytelling that I greatly admire - Peter Mayle. If you enjoyed A Year in Provenceor The Marseille Caper you will love this.
