This was an awesome book. I found Margolin when I was in college and read all of his books since then. There was a dry spell where the story wasn't as good as the ones in the beginning. Margolin has found his mojo again! It was a book I could not put down. I had to sit and read most of it in one reading!

As another Reviewer alluded “Margolin’s got his groove back”! I can’t put it better and only add with a compelling story line, a clever plot, nerve racking subplots, and excellent characters I dare predict we will hear from again. Translates to twists that keep your pages turning. Read this one tonight!
I was distracted by the fact that the police never tested Arnold Prater for gunshot residue when the man was killed with his gun in the warehouse. Surely that would have been part of the investigation? And how did Meredith find out which room in the hotel in Atlantawas Daniel Prescott's? Hotels don't give out that information.
Not up to Phillips usual complexity, pretty simplistic, the plot was predictable, and the ending was unsatisfying. Not my favourite book
I really liked this legal thriller a lot. The plot has unique and unusual twists that kept my interest throughout. The characters were sufficiently interesting, especially because the lead defense attorney in the capital murder case, Regina Barrister, is suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. She is at first unaware of why she is having memory issues and then in denial that there is a serious problem. Obviously her condition creates issues for everyone concerned. Additionally, the crimes and those who commit them, are bizarre, involving sadistic S & M sexual encounters, a really bad cop and a sophisticated scam to con a wealthy attorney out of his fortune. All in all this book is an entertaining and fast read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Amazing. Margolin gives us two stories in one book. An excellent seductive mystery and a real perspective, sensitivity for and education about a disease. Have read all Margolin's books. They're all good but this is the best. Bothered by his frequent use of "off of" instead of "off", but, hey, nobody's perfect!

This is the most engrossing courtroom drama/mystery I have read in some time. I will not reveal the plot. I dislike reviews that become book reports. The plot is novel, the characters vivid, a pace that keeps you reading and definitely an unexpected ending.
It's not a bad story and obviously there will be a sequel. There are some inconsistencies but overall the plot is fiendishly clever. The problem is that the characters never come alive. Worse, there is no real tension and very little suspense. The wholly expected ending falls flat though there is a not totally believable feel-good element, Still, a fairly satisfactory read.
