I should probably apologize to the author because my original review of this book was a bit harsh. I love some of Kenneally's other books (Defending Taylor and Racing Savannah, to name two). What bothered me the most about this book was the male protagonist, Sam. Sam's response when he and Jordan get into relationship rough spots is to get intimate with other girls. I'm no relationship guru, but I have a wife I love and I also have a pretty strong opinion about acting selfishly without regard to someone else's feelings, especially if you claim to love that person. The author made me permanently dislike Sam because, you have to ask yourself: if getting intimate with other girls is Sam's COPING MECHANISM when he has relationship troubles, then how is he ever going to have a successful long term relationship? He didn't develop or improve as a person as the story went on either...and the fact that Jordan looks past this womanizing rather than addressing it just makes her character seem weak, not to mention making the ending pretty unbelievable. Not recommended.

This was a cute and fun read D

I liked everything about it, except that this was more of a drama than anything else, I mean of course this was supposed to be about a girl in a football team surrounded by guys (WHERE CAN I SIGN UP FOR THAT?!?!) and going for her dream, but then her love life starts to kick in when Ty comes in with his waterfall blue eyes, and charm (or so you think...)

So of course Jordan starts to mess up, and Ty comes in and proves he's better than her (not really it's just harmones people!) on too if that, Jordan has always wanted to be the first girl to join the NFL, but the only support she has is her mother and Henry (sigh, Henry Henry Henry). Of course her team mates support her too, but not as much as childhood sweet best friend Henry )

I like the part where Henry and Jordan are partnered in the Econ class to be parents of the baby project, it was funny and cute ) and I totally saw them together in the future. It was destiny!!!

Henry is Jordan's anchor. But they fight in the novel and she finds comfort in Ty. But then she sees Ty's true colors, and tells her true feelings to Henry but it's too late.

But everything works out in the end. Henry finally stops being a dumby, and they end up together, and go to the same college on the same football team which is good )
Jordan Woods is a senior and a female quarterback who’s leading her football team at Hundred Oaks High to state victory. Jordan has a lot of support, but her dad is an NFL player who doesn’t really want her playing, so she’s vying to get a full football scholarship at her dream school. When Jordan discovers an attraction to another quarterback who has just moved to town, feelings get complicated with her and her best friend and wide receiver, Sam Henry.

I really enjoyed Catching Jordan – it was a smart and fun romance that rang true with depictions of the pressure Jordan has to deal with being a female football player. Where the book surprised me was in showing how Jordan reacts when she’s forced to acknowledge that she’s a female – in some ways, Jordan has just as much of a closed mind about girls as some people do about a girl playing football. In terms of the romance, I didn’t get as swoony for Sam as a lot of people did, but I appreciated how great a team he and Jordan were, and how full of friendship, fun, and history their relationship was.

To me, the best part of Catching Jordan was seeing how much Miranda Kenneally’s writing has changed and grown. I read Breathe, Annie, Breathe, her fifth book in the series last spring, and it was the first of her books I’d read. CJ was her debut, and while it was strong, I felt that Breathe, Annie, Breathe was a much more complex, developed, and nuanced book. Still, a very enjoyable start to the Hundred Oaks series, and I appreciated knowing Sam and Jordan’s history when I read Jesse’s Girl this summer, the latest installment in the series, featuring Sam’s little sister Maya.
I cannot begin to tell you how THOROUGHLY I enjoyed Catching Jordan. I could not put it down. It was as if the show Friday Night Lights and all of Sarah Dessen’s books had a baby. Yup, that good.

What I absolutely admire most about this book is how authentic these character’s felt. The second thing I like is the fact that there’s a girl who not only is the captain of the football team, but an all-state quarterback. WHOA. I liked that it wasn’t a joke either. I thought, “Oh, a girl on the football team…I bet she gets a lot of crap from the guys.” But NO! They respect her! Everyone does! And I loved that about this story. I loved Jordan’s drive, but I also loved watching her get all girly when facing the hottest guys she’s ever laid eyes on. Those moments when she’s vulnerable and unsure of herself are what really made me connect with her.

But I haven’t told you my favorite part about this book….which is the love interest twist. If you haven’t read this book yet, DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT! ……So I kind of knew Sam would turn out to have had a lifelong thing for Jordan. I saw that one coming. What I did not expect was that Jordan would pick him. They never pick the best friend!!! I was SO happy, y’all!! So, so happy. Because let’s face it, Ty was all that and a bag of chips, but Sam Henry, flaws and all, completely stole my heart. But he was bad sometimes, wasn’t he? I know, I know! He was terrible at times. But I guess there’s only so much a boy can take before he falls off the deep end. I’m just glad he was able to quit being a butthead. SPOILERS OVER, PEOPLE!

So with all that being said, I can assure you that Miranda Kenneally has gained yet another fan in me. I can guarantee that her books will be on my insta-buy list from this moment on. (<–Total Shania Twain moment I had right there. You know you sang it, too.)
